Overview

Handshake is recruiting Occupational Health and Safety Technician professionals to contribute to an hourly, temporary AI research project—but there’s no AI experience needed. In this program, you’ll leverage your professional experience to evaluate what AI models produce in your field, assess content related to your field of work, and deliver clear, structured feedback that strengthens the model’s understanding of your workplace tasks and language. The Handshake AI opportunity runs year-round, with project opportunities opening periodically across different areas of expertise.

  • The position is remote and asynchronous; work independently from wherever you are.
  • The hours are flexible, with no minimum commitment, but most average 5-20 hrs
  • The work includes developing prompts for AI models that reflect your field, and then evaluating responses.

Qualifications

  • You have at least 4 years of professional experience in one or more of the following types of work.
  • The examples below reflect the types of real-world responsibilities that you might have had in your role that will give you the context needed to evaluate and train high-quality AI models
  • Evaluate situations and make determinations when workers refuse to work due to perceived danger or potential harm.
  • Supply, operate, and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Train workers in safety procedures related to green jobs, including fall protection and proper ventilation during wind turbine construction.
  • Test workplaces for environmental hazards such as radiation, chemical or biological exposure, and excessive noise.
  • Maintain required environmental records and documentation.
  • Provide consultation to organizations or agencies on workplace safety principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Inspect fire suppression and portable fire systems to ensure proper working condition.
  • Verify availability and monitor use of safety equipment, including hearing protection and respirators.
  • Recommend corrective measures based on environmental contaminant analysis results.
  • Prepare or review specifications and purchase orders for safety equipment to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Prepare or calibrate equipment used to collect or analyze environmental and safety samples.
  • Conduct worker studies to determine whether illnesses or diseases are job-related.
  • Plan and conduct emergency response drills.
  • Examine credentials, licenses, and permits to ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
  • Review records and reports related to laboratory results, staffing, floor plans, fire inspections, and sanitation for safety enforcement and planning.
  • Educate the public on health issues and enforce health legislation to prevent disease and promote health awareness.
  • Prepare documentation for legal proceedings and provide testimony when required.
  • Collect data on potential hazards associated with new equipment or products used in green practices.
  • Maintain logbooks of daily activities, including site visits and tasks performed.
  • Assist in directing rescue or firefighting operations during fires or explosions.
  • Test or balance newly installed HVAC systems to ensure indoor air quality standards are met.
  • Confer with schools, state authorities, and community groups to develop health standards and programs.
  • Collect data related to ecological and human health risks at brownfield sites.
  • Conduct interviews to gather information on communicable diseases or violations of health and sanitation regulations.
  • Perform tests to identify hazards related to recycled products used at green building sites.
  • Examine practices at green building sites to assess how adherence to green building standards impacts worker safety.
  • You’re able to participate in asynchronous work in partnership with leading AI labs.
