Role Snapshot

Lead instructional architect for a large-scale CTE digital curriculum initiative serving middle and high school students. Defines instructional design frameworks, establishes pedagogical standards, and guides a team of designers and SMEs in developing scalable, AI-informed course designs.

Key Responsibilities: Serve as instructional design leader for client engagements, oversee development of course blueprints and prototypes, and ensure alignment with academic standards and workforce requirements. Partner with prompt engineers and instructional designers to integrate AI-supported workflows while maintaining human-in-the-loop quality assurance and reviewing all curriculum outputs.
Skills & Tools: Expert-level knowledge of instructional design methodologies, learning standards, and curriculum frameworks; strong client-facing, executive communication, and facilitation abilities; demonstrated ability to lead large-scale initiatives and adapt to emerging AI-enabled learning technologies.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field; 15+ years of experience in instructional design or learning strategy with proven expertise leading large-scale curriculum and digital learning initiatives in K-12, higher education, EdTech, or learning services environments.

Job Description

Role Overview:

The Director of Instructional Design will serve as the instructional architecture lead for a large-scale digital curriculum initiative focused on middle grades and high school Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. This role is responsible for defining and maintaining the instructional design framework that guides the development of multiple courses across all clusters/pathways.

The Director of Instructional Design provides pedagogical leadership, establishing instructional standards and ensuring all course development aligns with the defined instructional architecture. The Director guides instructional designers and collaborates closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), the CTE Director, prompt engineers, editors, media, and other internal stakeholders to translate course requirements into scalable course designs used across the portfolio.

They will help guide the integration of an AI-enabled workflow throughout the content development process. Candidates should bring experience integrating emerging technologies into curriculum development or demonstrate strong adaptability in leveraging AI-driven design processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Engagement + Instructional Strategy

  • Serve as the Instructional Design leader for client engagements related to CTE curriculum development.
  • Present course design frameworks, instructional models, and prototype content to key stakeholders.
  • Oversee development of thin-slice prototypes, course blueprints, lesson structures, and assessment strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with relevant academic standards, workforce expectations, and certification requirements.
  • Ensure instructional solutions align with program goals and learner outcomes.

AI-Informed Curriculum Development

  • Lead instructional design integration within an AI-supported course production workflow.
  • Partner with prompt engineers, Lead IDs, and instructional designers to develop and refine prompts to align with client needs and pedagogically sound instructional design best practices.
  • Ensure AI-generated outputs maintain instructional quality, consistency, and alignment with design frameworks and further ensure that all content is reviewed, edited, and validated by a human in-the-loop at each step in the production process.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes that validate alignment with instructional architecture, learning objectives, and any appropriate state or national standards.
  • Drive innovation through emerging learning technologies and AI-enabled learning experiences.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the CTE Director, onshore and offshore Program and project Managers, and guide the Lead Instructional Designers, IDs, SMEs, editors, and other curriculum developers to translate expertise into effective learning experiences
  • Ensure technical accuracy while maintaining developmentally appropriate learning design.
  • Guide refinement of templates, checklists, and design standards derived from thin slice validation through full course / portfolio delivery

Instructional Design & Learning Strategy

  • Manage and mentor a team of Lead IDs and instructional designers working across multiple courses and clusters
  • Oversee multiple concurrent programs while ensuring quality delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of instructional design teams.
  • Establish development standards, review protocols, and instructional-design best practices that align with client needs
  • Ensure alignment with learning standards, accreditation frameworks, and pedagogical best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in instructional design or learning strategy across K-12, higher education, EdTech, or learning services environments.
  • Proven experience in a client-facing, consulting, or strategic leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale curriculum, courseware, or digital learning initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of learning standards, accreditations, and curriculum frameworks
  • Expertise in instructional design methodologies
  • Excellent executive communication, facilitation, and presentation skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100.00 - $130.00 per year
