The Literacy Facilitator supports and coaches teachers to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills in early grades across assigned government schools. The role ensures quality implementation of Room to Read's integrated FLN program including literacy, numeracy, and school library components.

Position overview: The Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Facilitator supports and coaches teachers and Head Teachers to strengthen children’s foundational literacy and numeracy skills in the early grades. The Facilitator supports implementation of Room to Read’s Literacy, Numeracy, and School Library components in assigned government schools, ensuring quality, fidelity, and effective use of instructional materials and assessment data. The role also supports family and community engagement, government communication, and collection of school-level implementation and fidelity data. This position is reportable to the Program Officer/FLN Program Officer.
Duties and responsibilities: Support the implementation of Room to Read’s integrated Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) program, including Literacy, Numeracy, and School Library components, across assigned project schools
- ensure adherence to program design and standards and adopt a solution-oriented approach to implementation challenges
- Serve as the technical resource for assigned schools on Room to Read’s literacy and numeracy approaches, including effective classroom practices, use of teaching and learning materials, development of foundational skills in Grades 1–3, and integration of reading opportunities through the School Library component
- Work closely with government primary schools, Head Teachers and teachers to support adoption and effective implementation of Room to Read’s Literacy, Numeracy and Library program components
- Regularly observe, demonstrate and coach teachers in delivering Room to Read’s Literacy, Numeracy, and School Library components
- Provide ongoing coaching and implementation support to teachers based on classroom observations, identified needs and agreed action points
- Support teachers to use student assessment and tracking data to understand learning progress, identify gaps, and adapt classroom instruction
- conduct informal learning checks with sample students where required
- Support teachers in the effective use of FLN teaching and learning materials, including workbooks, teacher guides, manipulatives, charts, cards, storybooks, and other program resources
- monitor their appropriate and consistent use
- Support the distribution, delivery, organization, and management of program materials and ensure that materials reach and are effectively used by intended users
- Support teachers and Head Teachers to use storytelling, read-alouds, book sharing, independent reading, library-based activities, and other engaging approaches to develop children’s reading habits, motivation, enjoyment, and confidence as readers
- Support schools to establish effective systems for library organization, book circulation, checkout and return, care, and record-keeping, ensuring children have regular opportunities to access books at school and borrow books for reading at home
- Support schools to engage and guide Book Captains in age-appropriate responsibilities related to book organization, circulation, care, and encouraging peers to use the library, fostering children’s ownership and a positive reading culture
- Regularly monitor classroom use of instructional materials and provide feedback to teachers to ensure that materials are being used appropriately and consistently as intended in the program design
- Support the Program Officer in teacher, Head Teacher, and government training and review meetings, including serving as a co-facilitator for FLN and related trainings
- participate in professional development to strengthen technical and coaching skills
- Undertake regular school visits to assigned schools, except on days when on official travel, attending Room to Read meetings and trainings, or on leave
- Work with Head Teachers to strengthen their role as instructional coaches and school-level leaders, including supporting them to identify instructional challenges, facilitate Teacher Learning Circles (TLCs), monitor FLN implementation, and follow up on agreed improvement actions
- Work with families and communities to create a supportive environment for children’s foundational learning, reading habits, and continued practice at home
- Support schools to engage parents and communities through parent meetings, FLN awareness activities, reading-at-home initiatives, reading festivals, library-related activities, and other community events that promote children’s literacy and numeracy development
- Collaborate with Head Teachers, teachers and communities to develop and support sustainability mechanisms for continued implementation of FLN practices and mobilization of required resources after Room to Read's direct support ends
- Participate in government meetings and activities as required and maintain constructive relationships with relevant education officials

- Regularly collect and submit school-level implementation, program fidelity, classroom observation, assessment, materials-use, Book Check-out, library-use, and other required FLN data using Room to Read-approved tools and systems
- Monitor and document program implementation and fidelity against agreed Room to Read standards, instructional routines, FLN practices, and School Library requirements
- identify gaps and facilitate appropriate follow-up support
- Ensure timely, accurate, and complete submission of required monitoring and implementation data, and promptly communicate significant data quality or implementation concerns to the supervisor
- Use information from school visits, classroom observations, assessment, library use, and monitoring data to identify schools and teachers requiring additional support and follow up accordingly
- Regularly consult with the Program Officer on implementation progress, coaching needs, technical challenges, and follow-up actions
- participate in one-on-one meetings, review meetings, and other required program activities
- Conduct ongoing planning, documentation and reporting of school visits, coaching activities, classroom observations, training support, community engagement and other assigned activities as required by Room to Read

- Document best practices, implementation challenges, lessons learned and promising approaches and share these with the supervisor and relevant program teams
- Undertake any other activities required to fulfill the objectives of the organization
Qualifications required: Required: Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in education, teacher support, coaching, training, community engagement or implementation of education programs
- Experience working with government primary schools, teachers and/or government education officials will be an advantage
- Good understanding of early grade literacy and numeracy and child-centered teaching and learning approaches
- Demonstrated ability to conduct classroom observations, provide constructive feedback and support teachers to improve instructional practices
- Ability to facilitate training and group sessions for teachers and other stakeholders
- Ability to collect, maintain and report school-level implementation and monitoring data accurately and on time
- Good communication, interpersonal, facilitation and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work independently, manage regular school visits and maintain effective coordination with multiple stakeholders
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to assigned schools and communities
- Proficiency in Bangla and English, particularly for documentation and reporting
- and Basic computer skills, including use of MS Word, Excel and relevant digital data-collection/reporting tools
