The Associate Controller - Foundations provides financial leadership and supervision of day-to-day operations for multiple nonprofit foundations at Old Dominion University. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective financial management while supporting each foundation's mission.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee preparation of internal and audited financial statements, manage general ledger accuracy and reconciliations, coordinate budget processes, and supervise accounts payable and financial analysis. Serve as liaison with external auditors, research accounting compliance issues, and provide backup support to the CFO - Foundations.
Skills & Tools: Strong proficiency in GAAP, financial statement preparation, and nonprofit accounting practices with expertise in general ledger management and reconciliations. Excellent analytical, process improvement, and communication skills with ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate audits.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or foundation accounting. CPA or pursuit of CPA certification preferred with demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience.

Job Description
The primary objective of the Associate Controller- Foundations is to provide supervision of the day-to-day financial operations of multiple nonprofit foundations supported by Foundations Accounting while assisting each entity in carrying out their mission. This position will be responsible for completing/overseeing preparation of internal and audited financial statements and other financial reports, monitoring and managing all aspects of the general ledger to ensure accuracy as well as the completion of timely reconciliations, reviewing or providing periodic, or as needed, analysis and variances, coordinating or assisting with the budget process, managing general accounting, accounts payable, and financial analysis, ensuring Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are followed and researching accounting issues for compliance, making decisions related to/assisting with the development of processes and procedures, assisting with coordinating audits and serving as a liaison with external auditors, and serving as back-up to the CFO - Foundations.
