Job Description:
Bring ideas to life. Shape the brand. Make an impact.
The University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Graphic Designer to help shape how one of the nation’s leading journalism and communications programs is seen and experienced.
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative professional who can transform ideas, information, and complex concepts into compelling, sophisticated, and accessible visual communications. As a key member of the College’s communications and creative efforts, the Senior Graphic Designer will develop visual solutions that elevate the CJC brand and support its academic programs, research centers, departments, events, strategic initiatives, and community engagement.
This full-time, in-person position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects spanning print, digital, environmental, and multimedia communications. No two projects are alike—from designing a high-impact magazine or annual report to developing social media campaigns, digital advertising, event materials, presentations, signage, and graphics for multimedia productions.
Create. Collaborate. Lead.
The Senior Graphic Designer will take projects from concept to completion, partnering with faculty, staff, leadership, and other College stakeholders to understand communication objectives and develop creative solutions that deliver results.
The ideal candidate brings a sophisticated eye for typography, composition, visual hierarchy, layout, imagery, branding, and accessible design, along with the ability to balance creativity with strategic communication goals. This position requires someone who is comfortable taking ownership of projects, managing competing priorities, solving problems independently, and delivering exceptional work under deadlines.
What You’ll Do
- Conceptualize and create high-quality visual communications for print, including magazines, reports, brochures, booklets, program guides, advertisements, flyers, promotional materials, signage, banners, and other collateral.
- Design engaging digital communications for websites, social media, email, digital advertising, presentations, digital displays, and other platforms, adapting designs to meet the technical and visual requirements of each environment.
- Shape and strengthen the CJC visual identity, applying and advancing College brand standards to create a cohesive experience across print, digital, and environmental communications.
- Partner with faculty, staff, leadership, and stakeholders to understand communication goals, provide creative direction, and translate ideas and information into effective visual solutions.
- Manage projects from concept through final production, including establishing scope and timelines, gathering and evaluating content, coordinating revisions, preparing production-ready files, and ensuring projects are delivered accurately and on schedule.
- Collaborate with printers, vendors, and external partners to coordinate production and ensure high-quality final products.
- Champion accessible design by incorporating best practices for typography, readability, color contrast, visual hierarchy, and digital accessibility.
- Review and refine final products for accuracy, consistency, accessibility, brand alignment, and overall quality.
- Contribute graphics and visual assets for video and other multimedia productions as needed.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a designer who is both strategic and creative—someone who can take a communication challenge, identify the visual opportunity, and develop a polished solution that connects with its intended audience.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- An impressive portfolio showcasing high-quality print and digital design.
- Strong knowledge of typography, composition, layout, visual hierarchy, branding, imagery, and production.
- The ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging, and visually compelling communications.
- Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, revisions, and stakeholder expectations.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a wide range of clients and creative partners.
- A commitment to quality, accuracy, accessibility, and attention to detail.
- Experience working within established brand standards while identifying opportunities to thoughtfully evolve a visual identity.
