Technical Engineer serves as an internal technical consultant for electrical, mechanical, or commissioning disciplines, ensuring all construction activities comply with professional standards and company practices. The role provides critical technical support across design, preconstruction, and field construction phases for complex building projects.

Key Responsibilities: Provide technical support during design and preconstruction, manage equipment startup and turnover processes, monitor subcontractor field construction for schedule and compliance, and develop work control documents and construction guidelines. Conduct constructability reviews, research new construction methods and technologies, and provide technical input to estimating, controls, and project management functions.
Skills & Tools: Strong proficiency in electrical or mechanical construction technology, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills essential. Computer literacy across various applications including web-based project management systems, and thorough knowledge of construction codes, materials, equipment, and methods required.
Qualifications: 4-year engineering degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience. Minimum 8 years of extensive experience in electrical or mechanical construction discipline with valid driver's license.

Compensation: $140K–$200K/yr (estimated)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Act as internal technical consultant for electrical, mechanical or commissioning discipline to ensure all related construction activities are performed in accordance with accepted professional and Walbridge practices and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support during design and preconstruction to assist owner and Architect Engineer.
  • Manage Equipment start up turnaround process V-Start (KAN-BAN).
  • Assist in the implementation of the project’s QC Planning and inspection process.
  • Monitor Field Construction of Electrical / Mechanical subcontractors for schedule management and conformance to contract documents.
  • Provide expert technical support to company personnel as required to resolve field construction or similar problems. May include interpretation of codes, and design of specialty equipment.
  • Develop, issue and maintain general instructions and guidelines for field construction methods utilizing current industry and company practices.
  • Develop and maintain current work controlling documents which set mandatory minimum requirements for work, authority, documentation and record requirements in accordance with applicable codes and contract requirements.
  • Review A/E specifications, bid inquiries to insure technical and code requirements for material, equipment and field activities are met.
  • Continuously research, evaluate, and recommend implementation of new (or improved) construction processes, equipment, material, techniques and methods as technology improves.
  • Participate in constructability reviews of design documents to help determine most cost effective and schedule efficient method of construction.
