The Assistant Editor manages the complete manuscript editorial lifecycle for Wiley's prestigious science and technology journals, serving as a critical liaison between authors, reviewers, and internal teams to ensure high-quality peer review and research integrity.

Key Responsibilities: Screen manuscript submissions for scope and quality, make initial editorial decisions, select and manage peer reviewers, evaluate reviewer reports, assess revisions, and commission articles and special issues aligned with journal strategy. Track editorial performance data and collaborate with senior editors to share best practices.
Skills & Tools: Strong scientific judgment and editorial decision-making ability, expertise in manuscript evaluation and peer review processes, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, proficiency with editorial systems and workflows, and ability to identify research integrity concerns.
Qualifications: PhD in a relevant academic discipline (Physical Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Health Sciences, or Social Sciences) with postdoctoral research experience preferred and subject-matter expertise in chemistry, materials science, physics, biology, or related multidisciplinary fields.

About the Role: Assistant Editor Base Location: Beijing / Shanghai About the Role The Assistant Editor is responsible for managing manuscripts throughout the editorial lifecycle, from submission to final decision. This role serves as a key liaison between authors, reviewers, and internal editorial teams, ensuring a fair, efficient, and high‑quality peer‑review process. The Assistant Editor applies scientific expertise and editorial judgment to support the integrity, impact, and growth of Wiley’s journal portfolio, including titles such as Advanced Science, Advanced Materials, Angewandte Chemie, Chemistry Europe journals, Small, physical status solidi, and Macromolecular journals. Key Responsibilities Screen new manuscript submissions for scope, scientific quality, originality, and research integrity Make initial editorial decisions and provide clear, constructive decision rationales in line with journal policies Identify and escalate potential ethical or integrity concerns using established procedures Select, invite, and manage peer reviewers to ensure timely and high‑quality reviews Evaluate reviewer reports and make editorial decisions (accept, reject, revise, or refer) Assess revised manuscripts and author responses to determine next steps Recommend suitable alternative journals within the portfolio when appropriate Commission articles, special issues, and invited content aligned with journal strategy Engage subject‑matter experts to contribute reviews, commentaries, and other commissioned content Track and manage invited content pipelines and contributor communications Analyze editorial performance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities Collaborate with senior editors and editorial teams to share knowledge and best practices Participate in training and development to build proficiency in editorial systems and workflows Qualifications PhD in a relevant academic discipline Postdoctoral research experience preferred Subject‑matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Mathematics) Engineering & Technology Life Sciences (Agricultural, Biological, or Biomedical Sciences) Health Sciences (Pharmacology, Psychology, Nursing, Oncology, Metabolism, Immunology) Social Sciences (Public Health, Education, Sociology, Healthcare ) Multidisciplinary subjects e.g. Biochemistry/Chemical Biology/ Molecular Biology/Cell Biology/Structural Biology/Biophysics/Systems Biology/Synthetic Biology/Medicinal Chemistry/Translational Medicine/Drug Discovery /Precision Medicine/Polymer Chemistry/Supramolecular Chemistry/Materials Chemistry/Bioinformatics/ Computational Biology Experience with scholarly publishing or peer review as an author, reviewer, or editor International research experience outside the candidate’s home country is strongly preferred Strong analytical, decision‑making, and written communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively with global stakeholders Demonstrated interest in science communication and continuous learning **Please be informed that we are actively recruiting multiple personnels for the same role across diversified subject expertise in terms of prioritization, so if you haven't heard from us sooner after application, it doesn't mean rejection.
