Summary

Staff Accountant role at Shine Early Learning responsible for maintaining financial integrity and supporting core accounting operations within a dynamic organization. This position is essential for ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting the organization's mission through proper financial stewardship.

Key Responsibilities: Reconcile reports to general ledger, manage revenue and deferred revenue accounting per GAAP and ASC 606, perform bank reconciliations, process payroll uploads twice monthly, maintain trial balance with account reconciliations, and assist external auditors in preparing audited financial statements. Additional duties include reviewing customer contracts for revenue accounting, monitoring incorrectly booked items, and producing financial reports as needed.
Skills & Tools: Solid knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition standards, strong accounting principles and methods, proficiency in financial reporting and analysis, and excellent understanding of journal entries, balance sheets, and fixed assets.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, fiscal management, or related field (CPA preferred) with at least 3 years of relevant accounting experience. Physical exam and background checks required for this position.
Location: Remote from United States of America with up to 10% travel required for meetings and functions.
Compensation: $54,000 – $75,000/year

Are you ready to dive into the core operations of a dynamic organization? As our Staff Accountant, you will be essential to maintaining the financial integrity and smooth operation of the company.

What You'll Do

  • Reconcile reports to the general ledger.
  • Account for Revenue and Deferred Revenue in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ASC 606.
  • Perform bank reconciliations for all designated bank accounts.
  • Upload payroll for staff twice each month, including a basic review for reasonableness across expense categories.
  • Maintain the trial balance, which includes:
  • Completing balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Producing and supporting lead sheets required for audit.
  • Monitoring and correcting items incorrectly booked.
  • Review customer contracts to assist in revenue accounting, discussing with business leads as necessary.
  • Support the associated entity's accounting and trial balance needs as required.
  • Assist external auditors in the preparation of the audited financial statements.
  • Provide audit support for account balances.
  • Participate in assigned meetings, events, and training as required.

Non-essential Duties include:

  • Assist in the preparation of balance sheets, P&L statements, and other financial reports.
  • Assist in analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligation incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Perform any and all other duties (or functions) as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, fiscal management, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience with solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including revenue recognition.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, methods and legal requirements, journal entries, balance sheet, fixed assets.
  • Physical exam and background checks are required for this position. 
  • Travel required locally or long-distance up to 10% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.
