Experience with K-12 curriculum implementation, data-driven decision making, and leading professional development preferred.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY 
KIPP Jacksonville seeks a Science Curriculum Specialist who will serve as a curriculum manager for the schools across the KIPP Jacksonville region. The Science Curriculum Specialist furthers our mission by overseeing the full implementation of the K-12 science curriculum to lead students to the highest achievement results possible. The Science Curriculum Specialist ensures students have learning experiences that are aligned to standards, rigorous, hands on, and engaging. The Science Curriculum Specialist is an engaging facilitator who leads professional development about science and teaching best practices, drives data conversations about student progress, models lesson delivery, and offers support where needed. 

Success would be measured by science curriculum implementation results and student achievement in science.  The SCS is a full-time,  manager-level role that reports to the Senior Director, Teaching and Learning for the upcoming school year. The role is on the shared services team and is part of the larger academic team that supports schools. As a member of the shared services team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.

This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but can vary based on role and season. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Collaborate with regional and school-based leaders to develop and refine a horizontally and vertically aligned K-12 science framework

  • Develop and facilitate region-wide professional development for teachers in order to build our teachers’ and leaders’ capacity with science  content, planning, and instructional execution

  • Support the Senior Director to oversee the full implementation of the identified science curriculum across all grade levels, K-8 and Science Curriculum at the high school level including Advanced Placement. 

  •  Create and revise regional curriculum calendars and instructional guidance in collaboration with the academic team and schools

  • Ensure alignment of curriculum to standards and state assessments

  • Serve as a liaison to school-based content leads by running regional department meetings and teacher content teams

  • Analyze regional data in collaboration with regional and school-based leadership to identify areas of need, and support the facilitation of region-wide instructional initiatives that lead us to our goals

  • Monitor all science specials classes at the elementary level

  • Conduct regular instructional reviews of science-based instruction in partnership with school based leadership teams

  • Serve as a model teacher and assist as needed in the classroom setting

  • Provide coaching as needed to teachers and school-based content leaders

  •  Other duties as assigned
