About the Role

The Sr. Manager, Content Marketing plays a pivotal role in shaping the content strategy and development initiatives aimed at inspiring and engaging the Researcher and Librarian (R&L) markets. This role focuses on creating and implementing a strategic approach to content that resonates with researchers and librarians throughout their customer journey. The Sr. Manager ensures that content not only engages and educates the audience but also supports Elsevier's broader marketing and business objectives. 

The Sr. Manager will focus on creating content to establish Elsevier as a thought leader on relevant topics, driving awareness and fueling demand generation efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing content in different formats (e.g., white papers, reports, articles, video scripts, infographics). They will work in partnership with our Product Marketers, as well as Creative Services, Digital Acquisition, Customer Engagement, and Field Marketing teams to source ideas. The ideal candidate will be an effective writer with a keen understanding of digital channels; able to follow editorial and branding guidelines and company templates; is a self-starter who excels at time management; and consistently meets deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and execute a comprehensive content strategy and editorial calendar that support awareness and engagement programs tailored to the R&L markets.
  • Leading and managing content projects focused on engaging librarians and researchers on topics such as Gen AI and content integrity.
  • Conducting or commissioning in-depth research on audience needs and insights to produce high-value content for multiple channels.
  • Collaborating with marketing partners such as Segment Marketing, Solution Marketing, and Acquisition & Customer Engagement to ensure alignment of content with researcher and library offerings, while maintaining a focus on content quality and relevance.
  • Writing, editing and creating content following brand guidelines and distilling complex concepts and language into content that is easily understood and engaging.
  • Aligning with senior stakeholders on thought leadership and demand generation content, gaining support during pivotal moments.
  • Incorporating a strong understanding of academic and research trends and library issues to ensure content remains relevant, useful, and compelling.
  • Ensuring content is successfully activated in market, which encompasses impactful content presentation and effective reach.
  • Establishing an approach for monitoring and analyzing content performance metrics to refine strategies and improve audience engagement. (Time permitting).
  • Creating audience-focused content that motivates, inspiring and educating on key topics of interest for use in digital awareness campaigns.
  • Managing and completing work on time for multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor’s degree or certificate in marketing, communication, journalism or similar.
  • Have excellent English language writing and editing skills.
  • Have a proven track record of creating (digital) content that engages, inspires or educates.
  • Adept at simultaneously managing multiple projects; adhering to deadlines.
  • Able to manage and complete work on time for multiple projects at a time.
  • Have a STEM background or affinity for science is highly valued, along with previous experience in an academic or government organization.
