Job Description

SAT/ACT Subject Matter Expert & Program Manager (Contract)

About the Role

BenchPrep is partnering with a national college and career readiness franchise with ~100 locations to power their SAT and ACT offering. We are seeking a SAT/ACT Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong instructional design instincts to consult on the development, structure, and launch of this program.

This role sits at the intersection of test prep expertise, program design, and product thinking. You will be responsible for ensuring that the SAT/ACT programs we deliver are instructionally sound, effective for students, and practical for franchise instructors to implement.

This is not a content-heavy authoring role; it is a program ownership and quality role, focused on shaping, reviewing, and operationalizing the learning experience.

What You’ll Do

Program Design & Development (Pre-Launch)

  • Consult on the design of SAT and ACT prep programs across:
    • Self-study experiences
    • Instructor-led/tutoring formats
  • Advise on curriculum structure, pacing, and learning pathways
  • Ensure alignment with real-world tutoring and classroom delivery models
  • Review, edit, and provide feedback on existing content (rather than creating from scratch)
  • Develop light supporting materials as needed (e.g., program overviews, facilitator guides, onboarding materials for instructors)
  • Partner with BenchPrep product and content teams to make informed design decisions

Launch Readiness

  • Help prepare the program for rollout across ~100 franchise locations
  • Ensure materials are clear, usable, and scalable for franchise instructors
  • Participate in franchise trainings
  • Anticipate operational challenges and recommend solutions

Post-Launch Support & Optimization

  • Serve as the primary SAT/ACT expert for franchise partners
  • Support instructors with questions on curriculum, delivery, and best practices
  • Gather and interpret feedback from the field
  • Recommend and help implement program improvements over time
  • Act as an ongoing advisor to BenchPrep on SAT/ACT program evolution

What We’re Looking For

Core Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of SAT and ACT (ideally both)
  • Hands-on tutoring experience (required)
    • Experience working directly with students is critical
    • Familiarity with both 1:1 and group instruction formats

Program & Instructional Design Mindset

  • Experience designing or structuring learning programs or curricula
  • Strong intuition for:
    • What works in self-study vs. instructor-led environments
    • How instructors actually deliver content in real settings
  • Ability to translate expertise into scalable, practical programs

Collaboration & Ownership

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with product and content teams
  • Able to make recommendations and own decisions
  • Strong communication skills, especially in explaining educational concepts to non-experts

Experience Level

  • ~3–5+ years of relevant experience in SAT/ACT tutoring, instruction, or program design

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with franchise or distributed learning models
  • Background in instructional design or curriculum development
  • Experience supporting or training instructors/tutors
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms or edtech products

Engagement Details

  • Contract Role: Approximately 5–10 hours per week
  • Start: Before end of April
  • Initial Focus: Program design and build (through Sept/Oct launch)
  • Ongoing: Advisory, support, and program optimization post-launch
  • Compensation: Compensation for this contract role will range from $60 to $90 per hour, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Why This Role Matters

You’ll play a critical role in shaping a high-impact, national SAT/ACT program from the ground up—one that will be delivered across nearly 100 locations and directly influence student outcomes at scale.
