Would you like to show how research benefits society through the impact of international research collaborations?

This might be your opportunity to join us as a Research Networks Analyst Intern!

About the Team

Every day, scholars around the world conduct research and publish their results in many different fields. Their work often leads to inventions and new companies, to clinical trials that improve health, and to government policies and regulations. Elsevier’s Global Strategic Networks (GSN) unit helps monitor the heartbeat of the global research enterprise by tracking what is produced - much of it by Elsevier through its extensive scholarly journals - and prior research that is linked to it. We use state-of-the-art data analytics to present this bibliometric, patent, and media data in engaging ways that inform governments, foundations, colleges and universities, and researchers about their economic and societal impact and how to invest their resources in support of future research.

About the Role

This internship is part of the Rising TIDE program. Elsevier created its Rising TIDE (Tomorrow, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) internship program to foster inclusion and diversity as well as provide individuals with work experience in the corporate world so that we can develop a pipeline of talent for entry-level individuals for post-graduation opportunities.

As a Research Networks Analyst Intern, you will work with members of the GSN team to analyze bibliometric and related data and prepare custom infographics and reports that characterize existing international research collaborations by region and enable them to be augmented effectively.

This is a remote or home-based role that can be open to various locations in the eastern and central time zones.

Duration: 10 weeks starting June 2, 2025, through August 8, 2025.

Qualified candidates are required to apply with both a resume and cover letter to be considered for the Rising Tide internship.

Responsibilities

  • Using Scopus, SciVal, and other Elsevier products, along with AI-driven data analysis tools, to assist a leading research institution with research data and strategic data analysis. The goal is to illustrate the strengths and opportunities of international research collaborations to create value metrics.
  • Preparing infographics, reports, and presentations, making them accessible to internal and appropriate external parties.
  • Supporting the GSN team in its interactions with research organizations to provide a deeper understanding of collaboration patterns and strategic opportunities.

Requirements

  • Be a current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in STEM such as data science, computer science, data analytics, quantitative social science, library/information science, or a related field graduating May 2026 or later.
  • Be a self-starter who is comfortable working alone as well as with a team.
  • Possess solid communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).
  • Demonstrate solid multitasking and deadline management skills.
  • Be able to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Be a quick learner with the ability to adapt to new systems and software. Experience with Tableau, SQL, and/or STS is advantageous.
