Role Snapshot

Senior Software Engineer responsible for delivering high-quality, end-to-end feature development at Newsela, an AI-powered education technology company. This remote contractor role focuses on building reliable, well-tested software with minimal oversight while leveraging AI tools to accelerate development velocity.

Key Responsibilities: Own feature delivery from scoping and design through implementation and release; build and validate AI-integrated features with sound engineering judgment; maintain reliable systems using observability best practices and AI tooling for issue detection and resolution; partner with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to refine ambiguous work into clearly defined deliverables.
Skills & Tools: Expert-level software engineering with proficiency in full-stack development, system design, and production reliability; strong experience with AI-assisted development practices, LLM evaluation, and observability tooling; excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated track record of owning complex feature delivery end-to-end. Proven ability to work autonomously in remote environments with minimal oversight and strong judgment in applying or withholding AI tools based on context.

Compensation: COP$84M–COP$156M/yr (estimated)

Additional Role Details:

  • This contract position is paid a monthly rate (USD).
  • This person must be located in one of the following countries: Argentina; Brazil; Chile; Colombia; Costa Rica.
  • Please note that given the nature of the position, this role will not be eligible to participate in company-sponsored benefits.
  • The contract is estimated to last 12 months with the potential for extension, though an extension is not guaranteed.
