This is a great time to join if you are a business minded lawyer looking to make a real impact at what is still an early stage of our Legal Team’s growth. You will be responsible for counseling half of our core and developing products - along with a host of additional responsibilities that are sure to come along as we continue to grow. You will report to the Legal VP of Product, Privacy, Marketing and IP.
This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.
What you’ll do at Figma:
- Be integrated with product managers, designers, researchers, analysts, engineers, and others to help them solve problems and achieve business objectives while minimizing risk. You will regularly meet with internal teams (e.g. product) to understand strategies, roadmap, and initiatives, and advise on new features, activities, markets, etc., to ensure alignment
- Provide advice, strategic vision, and legal direction to a wide variety of teams from the initial stages of project development to launch. This includes providing mentorship on the design and modification of products, proactively identifying associated risks and recommending mitigation strategies, reviewing product user experiences to ensure legal compliance and accurate disclosures, and documenting that guidance for consumption by members of both the legal and product teams
- Serve as liaison between your product teams and other members of the legal team - across corporate, commercial, international, IP, and privacy - to ensure your business partners receive comprehensive, clear, and effective legal guidance across fields
- Build playbooks and establish processes to help scale our advice as a legal team
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- 8+ years of legal practice experience
- 2+ years in-house legal experience
- J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent)
- Membership in at least 1 U.S. State Bar, with good standing
- Product counseling experience
- Ability to make decisions in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment with strong legal judgment
- Ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of requests from a wide range of client teams and with limited direction
- Experience translating sophisticated legal concepts into practical and actionable advice for a non-legal audience
While not required, it’s an added plus if you also have:
- Experience working in a SaaS organization
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
