Student Assistant Software Developer

Classification Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all UF students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student STAS and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

Job Description:

The Student Assistant assists with data entry and the development of data-driven applications, systems, and infrastructure to support biomedical research within the Department of CTS-IT at the University of Florida.

Candidates should be self-starters who are willing to perform data entry and data management tasks using Python and/or R. Experience with Linux/UNIX is a plus. Candidates must understand and follow security requirements and best practices when working with human research data. They should be comfortable following established designs and specifications to build applications and systems, while also knowing when to ask questions or seek guidance from their team lead when they encounter a blocker.

Experience working as part of a team is desired. Additional experience with source control, software testing, unit testing, time tracking, and task management is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills are preferred. Technical experience with one or more programming languages is beneficial, with specific experience in Python, R, Bash, Git or GitHub considered a plus. This position is ideal for students who are interested in gaining practical software development and research data experience while working alongside a technical team.

Expected Salary:

$18.00 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Students are encouraged to apply early in their graduate studies and should have an interest in working in the position for at least two semesters or longer, if their academic schedule allows.

This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week during business hours (8:00 AM–5:00 PM). Students can work four-hour shifts in the following blocks:

• Morning: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM
• Afternoon: 1:00 PM–5:00 PM
• Both: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:00 PM–5:00 PM
