Summary

Content Developer for Integrated English Language Development (I-ELD) materials at Benchmark Education Company, supporting the creation of high-quality educational content in print and digital formats for educators and students.

Key Responsibilities: Coordinate with the Executive Content Developer to create I-ELD supports, develop presentation slides, write and edit content, attend content review meetings, and assist in quality assurance of digital products. Incorporate feedback from multiple departments and maintain weekly time tracking documentation.
Skills & Tools: 5+ years developing English language development materials, superior writing and editing skills, advanced MS Office proficiency, basic-intermediate Adobe Creative Suite skills, knowledge of scaffolding instruction and the Science of Reading, and excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Qualifications: B.A. in English, education, or related field (M.A. preferred) with 5+ years of teaching experience. Current knowledge of language, literacy and educational standards; bilingual/multilingual skills and Science of Reading knowledge are plusses.

Position Purpose:

Work with the Executive Content Developer to contribute to the development and production of new supplemental or ancillary product.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Executive Content Developer and freelance writers developing Integrated English Language Development (I-ELD) supports aligned to core content for teachers and students, in both print and digital formats, to ensure that content guidelines are observed
  • Coordinate with the Executive Content Developer to develop I-ELD content for teacher presentation slides
  • Coordinate with the Executive Content Developer to develop I-ELD content for professional learning columns
  • Write and edit I-ELD supports and small group lessons in manuscript and production stages
  • Incorporate feedback from Professional Development, Sales and Marketing, and Editorial management
  • Attend regular content-review meetings with Executive Content Developer
  • Read professional journals to increase market and pedagogical knowledge
  • Attend department product status meetings as necessary
  • Complete time tracking documentation on a weekly basis
  • Aid in the QA of new digital products

Job Requirements/Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience developing English language development/English learner materials for an educational publisher
  • B.A. in English, education, or a related field (M.A. a real plus)
  • 5+ years of teaching experience
  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of best practices in scaffolding instruction and supporting English Learners in an English Language Arts core program
  • Current knowledge of language, literacy and educational standards, expectations and requirements 
  • Advanced proficiency, MS Office
  • Basic-Intermediate proficiency, Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
  • Comfortable juggling several workflows concurrently
  • Able to receive direction and apply feedback
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading is a plus
