Role Snapshot

The Assistant Principal of Student Supports (SPED) at KIPP Middle School serves as a key member of the leadership team, driving academic and social-emotional learning outcomes while developing emerging leaders. This role is designed as an apprenticeship to prepare the Assistant Principal for future school leadership positions.

Key Responsibilities: Lead instruction and school culture initiatives, oversee special education support systems, and manage day-to-day operational and instructional leadership. Develop the skills of emerging leaders while supporting students' academic and social-emotional growth.
Skills & Tools: Strong instructional leadership and school culture development abilities; expertise in special education systems and student supports; excellent communication and coaching skills for staff development; and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, with a valid California administrative credential or eligibility to obtain one. Prior experience in education, preferably in a leadership or special education role, is expected.
Location: In-Person - Oakland, CA
Compensation: $85K–$120K/yr (estimated)

Position Summary 

At KIPP Public Schools Northern California, we believe that Assistant Principals are our future school leaders. We actively develop Assistant Principals for School Leadership and feel the Assistant Principal should consider themselves as an apprentice to the School Leader. The Assistant Principal should gradually build capacity to lead a KIPP school. 

The Assistant Principal’s job is to support the school in driving academic and social emotional learning outcomes for students as a key member of the school’s leadership team. Assistant Principals are expected to lead both instruction and school culture, while developing the skills of the school's emerging leaders.
