The Media Specialist supports surgical teams by assembling, operating, and maintaining specialized medical equipment including microscopes, endoscopes, and video recording systems in the operating room. This role ensures efficient OR operations and supports clinical research activities through technical expertise and equipment management.
Job Description
The Media Specialist works collaboratively with the Perioperative Nurse and Operating Room technician to provide support and assistance with the microscopes, endoscopes, light sources and video/recording systems. Essential Duties: Assembles and operates microscopes, lasers, endoscopes, audio-visual recording, and other equipment in a safe, efficient and effective manner. Performs preventive maintenance, and makes minor repairs and adjustments on equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Supports the staff by making minor repairs to the OR equipment, such as changing light bulbs and fuses. Collaborates with Clinical Coordinators in OR to assist with miscellaneous assignments as required, i.e., assisting with case carts, retrieving equipment from OPSC when necessary and acting as a facilitator for OR team Applies appropriate aseptic technique and follows policies in disinfecting or sterilizing endoscopes. Supports PI activities. Plans and organizes audio-visual and other technical equipment and supplies for assigned cases for maximum efficiency and most cost effective utilization Assists and educates new staff to AV equipment, Steris units, and Endoscopy equipment. Responsible for security of all AV equipment. Maintains/repairs operating room tables. Maintains all necessary documentation for sterilization/Steris equipment (scopes etc.) Assists with miscellaneous duties in the OR as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator. Is a team player. Displays a positive attitude. Follows policies, Title 22, and JCAHO standards. Assists/plans implementation of filming in the OR with outside companies as needed Contributes positively to overall customer service and patient satisfaction Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Req High School or equivalent Req 2 years Minimum 2 years of previous experience working in surgery or operating room setting required. Req Thorough knowledge of audiovisual equipment Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients. Req Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior. Preferred Qualifications: Pref Previous experience working with audiovisual equipment in healthcare setting. Required Licenses/Certifications: Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only) The hourly rate range for this position is $34.50 - $58.65.
