Position Overview
Reporting to the PMSO, the Director, Special Projects & Internal Communications supports the execution of critical organizational work through a portfolio that includes internal corporate communications, governance operations, and the development and oversight of the organization’s intranet (60%). In addition, the DSPIC will step into high-priority cross-functional initiatives and special projects, as needed (40%).
Success in this role requires someone who combines strong corporate communications experience with operational rigor, and disciplined project management capability. The ideal candidate can move fluidly between drafting executive messaging, coordinating high-visibility communications workflows, supporting governance administration, and building operational systems that improve organizational clarity.
This is a full-time position with a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum of three in-person days per week based out of our KIPP NYC Midtown Manhattan office. The role may also include travel to KIPP NYC campuses across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. The cadence and frequency of school visits will be determined by your leadership team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Internal Communications
- Lead the creation, planning, and execution of the internal communications function, including development of an organizational editorial calendar aligned to the arc of the year.
- Manage workflows and partner with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure content is aligned with KIPP NYC brand standards.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, Operations and other department leaders to publish timely and relevant internal updates.
- Translate organizational priorities and initiatives into clear internal communications and supporting materials for staff audiences.
Digital Workplace & Intranet Operations
- Project manage the implementation of the organization’s intranet platform, including planning, rollout, adoption, and ongoing operational management.
- Lead the non-technical implementation work required to operationalize the intranet platform, including content organization protocols, user support, and training.
- Establish the publishing practices, maintenance workflows, and coordination processes that keep the intranet current, accessible, and useful as a cross-functional organizational resource over time.
- Support change management and adoption efforts, ensuring staff engagement and sustained utilization.
- Monitor engagement, adoption, and usage metrics to inform continuous improvement.
Governance Operations
- Build and maintain operational systems and documentation management processes that support coordinated governance and the reliable management of board-related information.
- Manage the preparation, organization, archival, and distribution of governance materials, including board meeting minutes, resolutions, agendas, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate the filing, publication, and maintenance of governance-related records across internal systems and external-facing platforms.
