The Senior Data Engineer designs and maintains database schemas, develops ETL processes, and transforms raw data into business information while serving as a bridge between IT and business teams. They deliver high-quality data products with timely business impact across the organization.

Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and maintain ETL/ELT processes; perform data modeling for relational and NoSQL databases; extract, transform, and load data to data warehouse; manage AWS/Azure cloud services; troubleshoot production issues and maintain source code repositories.
Skills & Tools: Expertise in relational database SQL development (T-SQL, PL/SQL); proficiency with AWS and Azure cloud services; strong knowledge of data warehousing, ETL/ELT development, and NoSQL databases like MongoDB; experience with analytics platforms such as Power BI; ability to work independently in fast-paced environments and collaborate effectively within teams.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent; 7+ years of relational database SQL development experience; 5+ years of public cloud experience (AWS or Azure); 3+ years of data warehousing experience, preferably with AWS Redshift.

Compensation: $140K–$180K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer serves both our business partners as well as the Information Technology (IT) organization delivering high quality products with timely business impact. They are responsible for helping our business partners engage successfully with our products and services acting as a bridge between the IT organization and the various business teams. The Senior Data Engineer primary responsibilities are to design and maintain our database schemas, analyze and organize raw data from various data sources, to transform raw data into business information, to develop backend ETL processes and to maintain the data model for the data warehouse.

The Senior Data Engineer works collaboratively with other IT teams, including Data Architect, Data Engineers, Software Engineers and managers, QA/Test Engineers and is expected to build close trusting relationships with the business-lines. He or she will be expected to innovate and provide suggestions and solutions to maintain and improve the current and future developments of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform data modeling to design relational and NoSQL/document databases schemas
  • Design, implement, automate, and maintain ETL processes
  • Perform data extraction from various sources
  • Perform data transformation and load data to data warehouse
  • Perform data modeling to design relational and NoSQL/document databases
  • Work with various services from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure to build, host and maintain data extraction, transformation and loading functions to data warehouse.
  • Manage and maintain data warehouse
  • Implement and manage best practices for maintaining source code repositories and branching/merging strategies with Git for multiple code bases and applications
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems
  • Provide analysis and troubleshooting for production issues & code deployment activity
  • Work collaboratively with other developers, testers and product owners

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or equivalent degree
  • 7 + years of relational database SQL development experience (T-SQL, PLSQL, and/or SQL scripts, views, packages, etc)
  • 5+ years of experience with public cloud (AWS or Microsoft Azure)
  • 3+ years of experience in data warehousing, preferably AWS Redshift
  • In-depth knowledge in developing and designing databases and data models.
  • In-depth knowledge in ETL/ELT development.
  • Experience with AWS and Azure services, i.e., S3, Lambda, Power App.
  • Experience in NoSQL database (MongoDB)
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work in a fast-paced environment solving challenging problems in designing, writing, editing, modifying and debugging code
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks (FBI/BCI)

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in data analytics platforms, e.g. Microsoft Power BI
  • Ability to think independently and contribute to the overall effort without much direction
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Ability to work well under pressure
