Associate Scientific Editor supporting researchers in scholarly publication within Elsevier's STM Journals division. The role focuses on improving the author experience, managing editorial processes, and advancing rigorous peer review across a portfolio of 2700+ scientific journals.

Key Responsibilities: Evaluate manuscript content as a partner to external editors, manage the editorial workflow from submission through peer review to final decision, and engage with authors to improve manuscripts and find suitable publication venues. Recruit and manage external editors while iteratively improving processes for editors and reviewers.
Skills & Tools: Strong written and spoken English at professional level, experimental and results-driven mindset, excellent communication skills, technology-savvy with familiarity in online platforms and digital content, and ability to build relationships across international scientific communities.
Qualifications: PhD in Life or Food Science with preference for doctoral or post-doctoral experience in chemistry or health/cancer research. Record of published papers in scientific journals and ability to connect with and serve the scientific and clinical community.

Associate Scientific Editor – Life or Food Science Are You a PhD holder? Would you like to use your PhD and experience as an author to support researchers in scholarly publication?   About our Team At STM Journals, we collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. In support of our portfolio of 2700+ hybrid and Open Access scientific journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science, improving health outcomes, and fostering equitable participation in publishing. About the Role The role of Associate Scientific Editor sits within the Author Heroes team. Members of our team use scientific expertise and problem-solving skills to improve the author experience and help authors find a suitable home for their paper. Responsibilities Evaluating content as a partner to external editors; Improving the editorial process for editors and reviewers iteratively; Engaging closely with authors to help them improve their manuscripts; Managing the editorial process for papers, from submission through peer review to the final decision; Helping authors increase their odds of success in being published in another journal if rejected from their first choice. Recruit and manage external editors, holding them to the same standard Requirements PhD in Life or Food Science. We are especially interested in candidates with doctoral or post-doctoral experience in these fields and a focus on chemistry or health (cancer) Demonstrate a professional level of written and spoken English Demonstrate an experimental, results-driven, and enthusiastic work attitude; Have a record of having published papers in scientific journals; Stay technology-savvy, familiar with online platforms, social media, and digital content; Exhibit good communication skills and excellent written and spoken English; Build relationships and act as a self-starter. Be able to connect with the scientific community and across Elsevier at different levels within a large international environment; Show broad scientific interest and a desire to serve and help customers in the scientific and clinical community, including authors, editors, and reviewers. If performed in New York City, the base pay range is $103,900 - $173,300.U.S. National Base Pay Range: $86,600 - $144,400.
