The Executive Director for Integrated Student Counseling and Health Services provides visionary and strategic leadership for Old Dominion University's comprehensive student health enterprise, overseeing both medical and behavioral health services as an inaugural role. This position is responsible for designing and sustaining an integrated clinical and administrative structure that promotes student well-being, belonging, retention, and academic success.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee all aspects of healthcare delivery, clinical operations, EMR systems, budget and revenue management, facilities, and compliance with accreditation standards (AAAHC or comparable). Serve as institutional leader and advisor on student health, crisis response, emergency preparedness, and collaborate with campus partners and community healthcare providers.
Skills & Tools: Strategic leadership and visionary thinking; expertise in healthcare operations, clinical management, and integrated care delivery models; strong proficiency in budget management, regulatory compliance, and healthcare technology systems. Excellent collaboration and communication skills with ability to work across diverse institutional stakeholders.
Qualifications: Advanced degree in healthcare administration, public health, counseling, medicine, or related field with significant experience leading healthcare operations or student health services in higher education. Demonstrated expertise in clinical integration, behavioral health, compliance, and accreditation standards required.

Compensation: $120K–$180K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

The Executive Director for Student Integrated Counseling and Health Services provides visionary, strategic, and operational leadership for Old Dominion University’s comprehensive, integrated student health enterprise, encompassing medical healthcare and behavioral health. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Well-Being & Belonging, the Executive Director is responsible for advancing a student-centered, collaborative model of care that promotes well-being, belonging, retention, academic success, and persistence to graduation.

As the inaugural Executive Director, this role is charged with designing, leading, and sustaining a deeply integrated clinical and administrative structure that elevates both behavioral health and physical health as equally vital, interdependent components of student success. The Executive Director oversees all aspects of healthcare delivery and administration while fostering a culture of innovation, equity, collaboration, and continuous improvement; responsibilities include clinical operations, healthcare compliance, electronic medical records (EMR) systems, budget and revenue management, facilities, information technology, risk management, assessment, and accreditation through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) or comparable bodies. This role also serves as a key institutional leader and advisor on student health, well-being, public health, crisis response, and emergency preparedness. The Executive Director collaborates extensively with campus partners, healthcare systems, and community providers to ensure continuity of care and the delivery of high-quality, student-centered services.

Given the nature of the positions in the Division of Student and Campus Life that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing.
