Summary

A Data Engineer II will design, build, and maintain Everspring's modern data platform, owning complex data pipelines and integrations that support strategic decision-making while leading architectural decisions for the company's growing data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities: Own end-to-end data pipelines, ETL/ELT implementations, and cloud infrastructure; audit and remediate technical debt; design scalable data architecture; ensure data quality, lineage, and observability; and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data solutions that drive business value.
Skills & Tools: Advanced expertise in SQL, Python, and Airflow; proficiency with cloud data platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and tools like Redshift/Snowflake/BigQuery; strong data modeling capabilities; hands-on CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code experience; and excellent cross-functional communication skills.
Qualifications: 4+ years of data engineering experience with growing responsibilities, proven ability to design data architecture from scratch and untangle legacy systems, and hands-on experience building robust pipelines at scale.
Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States (Hybrid; minimum 3 days/week in office)
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $130,000 – $165,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer II, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining Everspring’s modern data platform. You’ll own complex data pipelines and integrations that support strategic decision-making and business operations. As a mid-level engineer, you'll collaborate closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams to improve data quality, performance, and accessibility. You’ll also lead architectural decisions and shape the future of our data infrastructure as we grow and scale. 

This position is ideal for someone who has already built robust pipelines, thrives on solving data challenges at scale, and wants to deepen their impact in a growing, mission-driven company.

This role reports to  Executive Director, Technical Strategy and Operations and is located in Chicago, offering a hybrid work environment with a minimum of 3 days required in the office every week and additional days as business needs arise.


What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the primary data engineering resource, owning data pipelines, integrations, and infrastructure end to end
  • Audit and assess technical debt across existing pipelines, workflows, and tooling; propose and implement remediation plans
  • Lead the design and implementation of new, scalable data architecture to meet current needs and anticipate future growth
  • Build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines (batch & streaming) for analytics, reporting, and operational use cases
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, metadata, and observability across all workflows
  • Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Collaborate with analysts, product managers, and engineers to gather requirements and deliver data solutions that drive business value
  • Establish and champion engineering best practices (testing, CI/CD, monitoring, documentation)
  • Provide technical leadership and set standards that will guide future hires as the team grows

What You Bring

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experiencein a data engineering role with significant and growing sets of responsibilities
  • Strong expertise in SQL and advanced Python
  • Experience building pipelines with modern frameworks (Airflow)
  • Deep experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure; Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
  • Strong data modeling skills (relational, dimensional, star/snowflake schemas)
  • Proven ability to untangle legacy systems, reduce technical debt, and improve system reliability
  • Experience designing and implementing data architecture from the ground up
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, version control, infrastructure as code
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to work independently while partnering effectively with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Comfort operating as a team of one, with a builder’s mindset and long-term vision
  • SaaS integrations and APIs (CRM, marketing systems, etc.)

Compensation offered at Everspring will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Position Location: Illinois

The base salary hiring range for this position is: $120k to $150k.

This role is eligible for incentive compensation or equity.
