Summary

Elsevier seeks an AI Prompt Engineer to design and optimize conversational AI experiences for healthcare professionals, creating intuitive interactions that support clinical decision-making with evidence-based outcomes. This role is critical to building generative AI-powered clinical support tools that help physicians and nurses access trusted medical knowledge through natural language queries.

Key Responsibilities: Design and optimize conversational AI responses, prototype user experiences, and validate concepts with users while tracking performance through qualitative and quantitative data. Collaborate with Product Managers and Data Scientists to improve LLM effectiveness, establish conversational AI design standards and governance, and advocate for best practices across the organization.

Skills & Tools: Strong Python proficiency with experience using LLM APIs (OpenAI, Cohere, Anthropic) and deep expertise in prompt techniques (zero-shot, few-shot, chain-of-thought, function-calling). Experience with RAG pipelines, vector databases (FAISS, Pinecone), version control (Git), and knowledge of AI safety, bias mitigation, and privacy considerations required.

Qualifications: Current experience as a prompt engineer with deep expertise in conversational AI development and evaluation methodologies. Familiarity with prompt library governance, documentation standards, and practical knowledge of information retrieval and embedding models preferred.

Compensation: $95,300 – $158,800 / annually
