Summary

Privacy Analyst supporting Renaissance Learning's legal team to maintain data protection standards and compliance in education technology. This role ensures the company meets privacy requirements across multiple jurisdictions while supporting its mission to serve over one-third of US schools.

Key Responsibilities: Support privacy program implementation including PIAs, DPIAs, data mapping, and vendor assessments; manage data subject rights requests and privacy incidents; administer privacy platforms and track compliance queues. Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Compliance, IT, Security, Product, and Marketing teams on privacy matters and educational technology regulations.
Skills & Tools: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple compliance initiatives; knowledge of privacy regulations (FERPA, COPPA, PPRA, state student privacy laws) and ability to conduct privacy impact assessments; excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in law, computer science, business, or related field; 2-3 years of experience in privacy, compliance, legal operations, or related field. Experience with privacy management platforms, data subject rights requests, or education technology privacy preferred.

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Privacy Analyst to join our legal team and support our mission to uplift education through innovative technology. This role will report to our privacy counsel and provide essential support to help us maintain the highest standards of data protection while navigating the unique privacy landscapes of education technology.

In this role as a Privacy Analyst, you will:

Privacy Program Support

  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of privacy policies, procedures, and standards
  • Support privacy impact assessments (PIAs), data privacy impact assessments (DPIAs)and data mapping initiatives
  • Help maintain records of processing activities and data inventories
  • Monitor and track privacy-related regulatory developments and industry best practices
  • Assist with vendor privacy assessments and due diligence reviews
  • Assist with tracking compliance with artificial intelligence system governance requirements

Privacy Operations

  • Review data subject rights requests (access, deletion, correction, etc.)
  • Support privacy incident response and breach notification processes
  • Administer privacy management platforms
  • Track and manage privacy review queues and service level agreements
  • Track and manage artificial intelligence system governance review queues and responses

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, IT, Security, Product, and Marketing teams on privacy matters
  • Support educational technology privacy requirements (FERPA, COPPA, PPRA, state student privacy laws)
  • Assist in responding to customer privacy questionnaires
  • Participate in contract reviews for privacy-related provisions
  • Support related litigation

Training and Awareness

  • Help develop and deliver privacy training programs for employees
  • Create privacy guidance materials and resources
  • Support privacy awareness initiatives across the organization

Reporting and Metrics

  • Maintain privacy program metrics and reporting dashboards
  • Assist in preparing materials for leadership reviews and audits
  • Document privacy processes and maintain knowledge base

For this role as a Privacy Analyst, you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-3 years of experience in privacy, compliance, legal, or related field. Alternative experience in the education, software or information technology fields may be acceptable
  • Basic understanding of privacy laws and regulations (e.g., CCPA, FERPA, COPPA and GDPR)
  • Experience with project management and process improvement
  • IAPP certification (CIPP/US, CIPM, or equivalent)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience with OneTrust or similar privacy management platforms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools

Preferred

  • Experience in a software or information technology organization
  • Familiarity with information security concepts and practices
  • Experience with review or implementation of artificial systems or demonstrated desire to learn more about artificial intelligence systems

The below compensation range is based on national market data and may vary by experience and location.

Salary Range
$68,000$85,000 USD
