Job Description

Contract Subject-Matter Expert — Mechatronics & Maintenance

Pathstream | Remote · part-time contract · ~6–12 months · ~5-10 hrs/week

WHAT WE DO

Pathstream was founded on the premise that substantial unrealized economic and human potential exists within each organization's frontline workforce. We are reshaping the way employees and managers on the frontlines excel in their careers. In this age of rapid tech evolution, our enterprise partnerships transform frontline teams from transactional to relational, and from task-oriented to strategic.

We impact companies' bottom lines with improved productivity, increased retention, and differentiated quality of customer experience — while employees experience greater success in their current roles and unlock future professional growth.

We're a tight-knit, hardworking, mission-driven team of ~60 employees eager to scale our solution and transform careers across the United States.

THE ROLE

We're looking for experienced maintenance professionals to provide ongoing subject-matter expertise for a training program that prepares people for maintenance-operator roles in automated warehouses and facilities. You bring the real-world experience; you don't need a background in course design.

We're currently prioritizing UK-based candidates, though it's not a requirement.

Note: We want your experience and professional judgement, not your employer's confidential information. We'll never ask you to share proprietary documents, internal procedures, or other non-public information from a current or former employer.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Give feedback and input on course content — review what we're building and tell us where it's accurate and where it doesn't match how the work is really done.

  • Lend real-world, on-the-floor expertise — what the job is actually like day to day, the knowledge that isn't in any textbook.

  • Help our learners — once the program launches, be a knowledgeable, credible person they can turn to with questions as they build confidence in an unfamiliar field.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have hands-on experience maintaining automated equipment — the kind found in warehouses, fulfillment centers, or similar facilities — across mechanical, electrical, and basic automation/controls. You've done the real diagnosis and repair, not just read about it.

  • You ideally hold relevant industry credentials — SACA certifications or micro-credentials, or comparable technical qualifications.

  • You understand the entry-level maintenance operator role and the people entering it. You may have worked in the role yourself, supervised or mentored operators, or worked alongside them as a technician.

  • You can spot when something isn't how it's really done and explain the right way clearly and specifically. Clear communication is key.

  • You're comfortable working with beginners. You can explain technical work patiently to people brand new to it, without dumbing it down or making them feel out of their depth.

  • Teaching or training experience is a strong plus — if you teach mechatronics or maintenance at a community college or trade school, or have mentored apprentices and new technicians, you already know what beginners get stuck on.

  • You're available around 5- 10 hours a week on a contract basis, including some ongoing availability once the program is live to help answer learner questions. If you don't have that much availability, please still reach out — we're open to working with experts who can offer less.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Meaningful work where your expertise directly shapes a program that helps people launch skilled-trade careers.

  • Flexible, mostly asynchronous, part-time, remote contract work that fits alongside an existing job.

  • Competitive contract rate, based on experience; scope and weekly hours to be discussed

COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Our company values diversity and believes diverse teams make innovation possible. We work on complex, difficult problems with no linear or clear solutions. We need a diverse team that can bring different perspectives and approaches, and whose experiences reflect the full set of stakeholders we seek to serve. As such, Pathstream is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage all qualified applicants from any race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or other characteristics to apply.
