Summary

Join McGraw Hill as a Senior Software Engineer to design and develop high-performance web applications that enhance digital learning experiences globally. You'll own end-to-end delivery and champion engineering best practices while improving the SIMnet course management platform.

Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain high-throughput web applications and learning tools used by students and educators worldwide. Own end-to-end delivery including discovery, technical design, development, testing, deployment, and production support while partnering with product teams to translate requirements into scalable solutions.
Skills & Tools: Advanced proficiency in C# (.NET Core), RESTful API design, relational database optimization (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL), Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools. Strong understanding of microservices architecture, SOLID principles, design patterns, message queuing systems, application performance monitoring (New Relic), and excellent analytical and communication skills.
Qualifications: 10+ years of enterprise or product software development experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Demonstrated expertise in building scalable, mission-critical applications with hands-on experience in complex system architecture and SDLC improvements.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-throughput, mission-critical web applications and learning tools used globally by students and educators.
  • Own end-to-end delivery, including discovery, technical design, development, automated testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Partner with product and engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable, iterative solutions and technical roadmaps.
  • Shape system architecture and development standards while improving the SDLC through infrastructure-as-code and monitoring-as-code practices.
  • Champion engineering best practices to ensure product quality, performance, security, resiliency, and maintainability.
  • Build actionable observability in New Relic, define SLOs, and drive operational excellence while mentoring peers and fostering a culture of ownership.

What You Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise or product software development with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in C# (.NET Core), including async/await, LINQ, dependency injection, and Entity Framework Core for complex queries, performance tuning, and DbContext configuration.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, design patterns, microservices architecture, andmessage queuing systems such as MassTransit or SQS.
  • Skilled in relational database design and SQL optimization (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL), with hands-on experience using Docker, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Proficient in application performance monitoringusing New Relic or similar tools, including creating custom metrics, defining SLOs, and implementing alerts and incident response.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communicationskills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

The pay range for this position is between $130,000-$135,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
