Job Description
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. If business needs change, an individual employee's designation may be adjusted with a required minimum of ten (10) business days' notice unless employee conduct or safety issues necessitate otherwise at the discretion of management.
The Training Specialist team is primarily responsible for delivering training to the child welfare workforce across the state. To support their completion of continuing education credits, we train participants in all 100 county DSS offices annually. The Training Specialist will report to the Lead Training Specialist and will be responsible for the development and delivery of curricula and instructional programs (both in person, classroom and in an online environment) with a focus on topics relevant to child welfare and human services. The Training Specialist manages both a rigorous training schedule while balancing complex development projects with clear timelines.
Although this position is designated as remote, the facilitating learning requires overnight travel to training centers throughout North Carolina's 7 child welfare service regions on a regular basis. The Training Specialist facilitates continuing education courses that range from 1 to 4 days in length; overnight stays may be up to 4 nights at one time.
The Training Specialist engages in a team course development process that integrates adult learning principles and research-based, best practice strategies for immediate application. The Training Specialist develops curricula following FCRP quality standards, applicable NCDHHS policy, and exchanges feedback with peers throughout the process. In addition, this position will support other deliverables on a variety of projects with other community organizations. These services include facilitation of large and small groups, writing for publications, providing training, technical assistance, and implementation support.
