Skills & Tools: Fluent English and native-level Japanese language proficiency with strong writing and reading comprehension; proficiency with translation management tools (Phrase), Microsoft Office, and ability to manage glossaries, translation memories, and style guides; excellent project coordination and stakeholder communication skills.
Qualifications: Practical experience in English-to-Japanese translation, proofreading, and localization project management; demonstrated experience using translation management tools and managing multiple concurrent projects. Preferred experience includes translating training/educational content, collaborating with translation vendors, and knowledge of learning management systems.

Essential Job Functions
Localization Work

  • Primarily English-to-Japanese translation
  • Japanese-to-English translation rarely occurs only a few times a year.
  • Proofreading of initial translations (English to Japanese translations)
  • Primary and Secondary translation (English to Japanese translations; occasionally Japanese to English translations)
  • Making revisions based on review results
  • Submitting and delivering localized manuscripts
  • Collaborating with relevant parties
  • Schedule management

Types of Training Content projected to be handled

  • Training Materials: Power Point presentations, instructor notes, instructions, flashcards, worksheets, videos, closed captions, etc.
  • Learning Platforms: UI, assessment questions, reports, email communications, etc.
  • Marketing Materials: Websites, etc.
  • Sales Promotion Materials: Sales tools, training materials, etc.
  • Internal Documents: Information distributed by headquarters, newsletters, FAQs, etc.

Localization Project Management

  • Coordination with external translation vendors
  • Progress management and coordination of translation tasks (US Headquarters and internal stakeholders)
  • Terminology and project management using translation management tools such as phrase
  • Coordination and preparation of internal demos
  • Reviews with instructors, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Practical experience in translation and localization
  • Experience in English-to-Japanese translation and proofreading
  • Experience using translation management tools such as Phrase
  • Experience managing glossaries, translation memories, and style guides
  • Experience managing and coordinating multiple projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent Japanese writing skills and English reading comprehension (native-level proficiency in both Japanese and English)
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and similar software

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience translating training materials and educational content
  • Experience collaborating with translation vendors
  • Knowledge of LMS and learning platforms
  • Practical experience in DTP
