Summary

The Managing Director will lead Per Scholas' National Capital Region hub, serving approximately 1,000 learners annually while driving strategic fundraising, employer partnerships, and workforce development initiatives for underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities: Primary focus (80%) on developing and executing local fundraising strategies to secure $10-$10.5 million by 2030, identifying new funder relationships, and managing employer outreach partnerships. Secondary responsibilities (20%) include leading annual operating plans, managing local staff, and serving as the primary liaison across Per Scholas teams.
Skills & Tools: Strategic fundraising expertise, strong leadership and team management abilities, business development acumen, and deep knowledge of workforce development for underserved communities. Excellent relationship-building, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills required.
Qualifications: 10+ years of experience managing multi-campus operations and securing national partnerships with demonstrated operational management skills. Proven track record in fundraising and strategic growth management required.
Location: Hybrid in Silver Spring, Maryland, United States (4 days onsite in Silver Spring/1 day in D.C. coworking space per week)
Compensation: $135,000 – $145,000/year

Managing Director (MD) – National Capital Region

Location: Hybrid (4 days week onsite/ 1 remote), Silver Spring, MD (3 days)/ D.C. coworking space (1 day)   

Position Summary

The Managing Director (MD) will lead a large-scale Per Scholas campus or regional hub serving approximately 1,000 learners annually. This position focuses on driving high-level strategy, fundraising, and establishing large-scale employer partnerships. The MD will be responsible for raising $10 - $10.5 million by 2030, focusing on national and regional fundraising initiatives. They will work closely with senior leadership to develop and execute comprehensive local strategies while maintaining alignment with Per Scholas’ national goals. The MD will also be accountable for ensuring the delivery of high-quality tech training and fostering community engagement, leading efforts that will position the campus as a leader in workforce development for underserved learners.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Business Development (80%)

  • Develop and lead Per Scholas local fundraising strategy in partnership with the Regional Senior Vice President and in collaboration with the National Development team.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives to secure $10 - $10.5 million fundraising target by 2030.
  • Develop and lead Per Scholas local fundraising strategy in partnership with the Regional Senior Vice President and in collaboration with the National Development team.
  • Identify and secure new funder relationships through a diverse range of fundraising activities (e.g., foundation, corporate, public, individual, and earned income).
  • Develop and manage, and lead the local campus budget in collaboration with Regional Senior Vice President.
  • Partner with the National Development team to generate grant requests and reports.
  • Develop and lead Per Scholas local employer outreach strategy in partnership with the RSVP and with support from the National Talent Solutions Team.
  • In collaboration with the National Talent Solutions team, manage an employer-facing team to identify, cultivate, and secure new employer relationships with the goal of achieving job attainment fee-based revenue for your campus.
  • Secure a pipeline of employer partners in the local community.
  • Serve on the Talent for Tomorrow Coalition’s executive committee and ensure Per Scholas is a key team player in this D.C.-focused collaborative partnership.
  • Expand and partner with a local advisory board of business and community leaders.
  • Represent Per Scholas at regional meetings, conferences, panels, and media opportunities.

Team & Program Leadership (20%)

  • Develop, lead, and implement Per Scholas local annual operating plan in partnership with the Training Support Team and Regional Senior Vice President.
  • Serve as Per Scholas local primary liaison and point of contact with the training, finance, communications, development, and administration teams,
  • Lead and develop a talented team of local staff and facilitate regular feedback, performance management, and professional development.
  • Follow local and national workforce, business, and tech industry trends to anticipate learner and employer needs.
  • Ensure that all training goals are met or exceeded, including outcomes tracking and reporting, using Salesforce and other data platforms.
  • Manage and inform the annual operating budget.
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of our tech training to Per Scholas adult-learners and alumni.
  • Implement new training initiatives in response to local market demand.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading large teams and managing complex, multi-campus operations
  • Proven ability to secure major national partnerships and manage large-scale fundraising campaigns
  • Expertise in strategic growth, program expansion, and high-level operational management
  • Strong leadership and vision in workforce development or related nonprofit sectors

For this role specifically, we are targeting a salary range of $135,000 - $145,000 where the difference in salary is typically determined by several factors, including geography in which the selected candidate resides, and alignment with qualifications and experience.
